The only purpose that came to mind after figuring out how to use it is that I love kitchen appliances, many of which I almost never use, and this one fits into this category. I should have read more carefully about the battery powered device. It turns out you have to do everything with it that you do with any one-cup maker, except you also put in 2 AAA batteries, for what? Spin the top like dripping hot water! You need to load the coffee, gently push it into the device and then boil the water in a separate pot or kettle, then pour the boiling water into the container and voila! The battery rotates the water reservoir while water pours onto the coffee in your cup from below. And it lasts so little, if you want a decent cup of morning coffee, add more coffee than the "instructions" say and stand ready to pour more boiling water into the container than the one-dose limit will fit. In other words, you will do anything. You do this with a basic cone, filter and kettle of hot water, except it takes longer for just a basic cup of coffee.
