The ramp is solid and comes fully assembled. Those are good moments. Cons: The block is untreated wood and the carpet is firmly bonded, so outdoor weather resistance (with intended traffic) is not possible and the carpet cannot be replaced after wear or soiling. The carpet is ribbed but VERY smooth making it more of a slip than a ramp. 8″ raised and the dog's paws will start to slip when he tries to stand up. I bought this to help my older Beagle get up onto my new bed (which is higher than my old bed) where he normally sleeps. The ramp, about 16 inches high, is so slippery that my beagle actually slid backwards trying to walk up the ramp. Then I lowered it to use as a kind of sloping step. The beagle was so frustrated with slipping that he refused to use it, even coaxing him with a treat. If your dog doesn't have leg spikes or your pet is less than 10 inches tall, you will be very disappointed.
