This is a well built product that works great with the Honda Ridgeline. The main components of the lock are made of high-quality thick metal that will not break if the door is not dismantled. There are external plastic parts and if someone were to hit these parts with a hammer they could certainly destroy them, but it's unlikely they could open the door. Honestly, if someone were to bang my truck with a hammer, I'd rather have the external components snap off than remain intact and potentially further damage the tailgate body. However, there are some issues with installing this lock. My suggestions are: In step 1, after removing the tailgate upper trim, take a picture of the orientation of the white clips. Basically, everyone is going in the same direction. You remove the clips from the tailgate and replace them with the plastic cover you removed from the tailgate. When reassembling, the plate snaps back into the tailgate. In step 2 you will need to file washers on both of the screws holding the factory button in place. It's not difficult, but it's good to know beforehand, as other reviewers of this chateau have pointed out. Don't worry about loosening the washer as the bracket is more than strong enough to accommodate washer changes. In step 3 you will drill through the plastic and it is very helpful to have a vacuum nearby to pick up the plastic drill bits. They can block the lock in the future if you don't remove them. Drilling is very easy. In step 5, the orientation of this image is rotated 180 degrees relative to other images. Now comes the really tricky part, which requires a bit of finesse. I had to slightly undercut portions of the crank slot (and the ridge it fits on) to make this lock work really well. Don't even attempt this unless you really have a feel for mechanical parts/mechanisms as you can easily overdo it (and then have to order a different connecting rod from the manufacturer). It's possible I just received a set that arrived a little "tight," and your install could pass without these tweaks. I would be very interested to know if other reviewers have had this problem.
