They will break in the middle of the plastic loop unless you slowly and carefully pull it across the bridge of your nose. I've found that heating the plastic loop while holding it in my mouth reduces the breakage rate, especially when carefully spreading the pads out to fit over the bridge of my nose. I have a huge nose, that might be part of the problem.
