Not bad for the money, but maybe not very good for precision applications.

Not bad for the money but maybe if you JUST WANT IT TO WORK then maybe spend a little more for something better. Remember that more expensive doesn't always mean better. I cost 15hg statically but that was to be expected. I built a vacuum pump by reversing an old air compressor and the gauge I had on hand was a dry gauge. It worked pretty well when it was new, but now that it's a little dated I have to press the display to get the 'current' reading, which is really annoying. When the pump is off it sometimes gets stuck at a certain level so I never know what my vacuum pressure is so I had to swap it out for something better filled with oil. So this sensor is MUCH better than the one it replaced. As described above, I no longer have to constantly tap the sensor to get a reading, which is fine with me. However, when I first turned my pump on with this new gauge, it started to run slowly, which is to be expected given the 30-gallon tank capacity. Once the pressure started dropping, it started dropping rapidly. However, it seems that this sensor is a little "sticky". It "falls" about 3-5g at a time, but doesn't get stuck. I also doubt the accuracy of this sensor. When I originally assembled my pump I was able to draw around 28-30 horsepower (based on the dry gauge I installed). Now the same sensor only goes down to 25 hp. Now just by changing the sensor from a tired dry sensor to this new wet sensor I can easily get to 30hg and even lock the needle in the maximum position I could imagine 35hg (which is impossible). So I could have confidence in the accuracy of my old dry meter as it's easier to get to 25hg than it is to get to 30hg+. However, I'm glad I don't have to babysit the sensor while I'm using it.

Pros
  • Phosphor Bronze Bourdon Tube
Cons
  • So far so good
