Review on ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ A-Tech 16GB RAM Upgrade Kit for Apple MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini - DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 2Rx8 204-Pin SODIMM by Christopher Shavers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A small issue with the first pair but they were replaced immediately.

Installation and packaging are almost the same no matter what RAM you buy. it was packed correctly. It installs on Mac just as easily as anything else. I upgraded a late 2012 Mac Mini from 8GB and hard drive space to 16GB RAM and SSD. After the last operating system update, the machine slowed down to a minimum and became practically unusable - even for simply browsing and reading messages without picking up the phone. Now it's responsive - at least as good as it was 4 years ago and a few OS updates ago. if not a little faster than back then. The RAM and HDD upgrade took about 1/2 hour (if you have the right tools and are used to working on a Mac Mini or at least laptops - otherwise allow an hour). No major issues although I damaged the heat shield but it works fine and I figured $100 for RAM and hard drive to extend it for a year or two which is fine as it's my fourth computer on my desk and I only use it for private chats and browsing. Completely satisfied (even impressed) with how much better it loads and runs. The only complaint is that it takes almost 3 days to get the RAM and the first set had a bad DIMM so I had to return it so had to wait a week after upgrading the drive to get a working one Getting RAM, but the return process was easy and they sent a replacement before the faulty one even got into the UPS. For an 8 year old replacement PC upgrade, it's worth it. If I were trying to upgrade a new machine (if you can at all) I would settle for a faster/more established RAM like OWC, Kingston or Crucial but for the price it was worth it. Unfortunately this is probably the last time I'll be able to pull out RAM and hard drive swaps on an older computer as my new ones aren't really field serviceable.

Pros
  • Rugged design
Cons
  • Without automatic controls
