Review on XPG GAMMIX 2280 Internal AGAMMIXS70 2T C by Francisco Garcia

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect fit for PS5 with other brand heatsink. Update: brick. Update: Fixed

Additional update 08/16/2021: Adata stole the firmware update from their site, spent 2 days on it and fixed the problem by adding it back to the site Has. I have confirmed that the latest firmware updater no longer blocks 2TB drives. It also doesn't update them because it reports that drives running 3.2.F.P7 don't need to be updated. Other users have performed tests to confirm that the 3.2.9.1 performance fixes are present in firmware 3.2.F.P7. So I can warmly recommend this disc again. The price has gone up since I bought it for $309, but even at $329 it's still one of the cheapest 2TB drives with this level of performance currently available. Additional update 8/7/2021: I tracked down the exact issue. . 2TB drives come with 3.2.F.P7 firmware and if you try to upgrade from 3.2.F.P7 to 3.2.9.V your drive will lock up. I found a forum where a bunch of other people also ended up with locked drives and ADATA support doesn't acknowledge the problem. Only update the firmware to the latest version if your SSD is version 3.2.7.3. This will work fine. ADATA needs to recognize this problem and fix it fast because right now their official flashing utility that anyone can download is going to ruin their most expensive drives. Downgrading to 2 stars until this issue is resolved. The disc with the official software update killing it cannot be recommended. 8/7/2021 Update Summary: I was told to update the firmware on this drive as the latest version has both better performance and better thermal performance. This completely bricked the SSD. I have two of these and foolishly thought it might be an accident with one drive, so I updated the second drive's firmware as well and it sizzled too. He proceeded to update the firmware with his official tool, completed about 50% of the way and then gave the error "Firmware update failed". then the drive itself switched to "Disable" and all its properties disappeared. At this point the PC will not boot if a drive is plugged into it and the PS5 will boot after 5 minutes and not recognize the drive at all. So, both my hard drives are dead. I will send them back, order more and ask adata support how to update the firmware.---------------------- --- --- ----------------------------------- --------- ------ ------------------ By default, this will not fit the PS5 because the heatsink entrance in the kit is too high and the product description says that the heatsink this cannot be removed. That is only partly true. The top of the heatsink unscrews and removes easily, so it doesn't fit the PS5. The lower part is not removable. With the top I could easily install a better low profile heat sink to replace it and then it fitted the PS5 perfectly. For those wondering, this can actually be used on PS5, just not out of the box. Requires additional purchase of thin heatsink to replace the big beast that comes standard. I chose a 1.5mm Icepc decanter coated copper heatsink.
