Rating Update -- I gave up and bought a REAL scanner (about the same price!). Yes, that's right, you can buy a true flatbed/negative/slide scanner with infrared dust detection and more for just a few dollars more - Epson V600. Go there! Original Rating :========================================== == === ===================== The design of this product (and similar products) causes headaches when it comes to dust pollution affecting scan quality. The upward lighting is almost exactly in focus, so any dust or lint that settles on it can easily ruin any scan. Yes, they provide a cleaning wand, but I keep wiping and wiping to get rid of the nasty dirt. If that sounds annoying, it is. Menu navigation is a bit fiddly, I often hit the wrong button and have to start over. It's harder than it looks. The picture quality is acceptable but not outstanding, which is partially compensated for by the automatic brightness control. Cropping loses about 10% of the image at the edges (why?). It's also annoying that you can't eject the SD card without turning the device off and on again. I think for this price it's about what I expected. I take my scans (all thousands) and then put them on the shelf never to touch them again. By the way, this is a MUCH more reliable machine than the Kodak Scanza, a really terrible product.
