Good product, not disappointed.

I use both programs in multiple exposure mode to scan old family bw films. This practically does not affect the result, rather a placebo, but it is this mode that is set in the programs by default. VieScan is faster and more convenient. In the case of normally exposed frames, both programs give almost the same result. In the case of underexposed or contrasting frames, the VieScan result can be catastrophically bad due to a program bug. Such frames are scanned by SilverFast with the correction…

Pros
  • Good build quality, small size, quiet operation. Cute. The scanner comes with a fairly advanced SilverFast SE Plus program. The popular VieScan program, which can be purchased for additional, but little money, also works quite well with it. Better pro version. The functionality of the programs is similar, but VieScan works noticeably faster. On the other hand, SilverFast is better at removing dust and scratch marks, and has more tools for working with color. I liked it more when scanning complex bw frames. There is no automatic film feed, but the complete frames are quite well suited for working with old films that have been deformed from time to time. Of course, with some caution. In combination with the two programs mentioned above, it is close to ideal for scanning old bw films.
Cons
  • When scanning color films, it is noticeably inferior to more advanced models, for example, from Reflecta. Smaller dynamic range of the sensor. This may affect the scanning of quality slides. The dust and scratch removal function does not work very well when scanning in infrared. The complete SilverFast provides the most efficient defect removal algorithm, but the limitations for this model lie in the field of hardware implementation of infrared scanning: there are quite a lot of visible defects in the resulting file. The real resolution of the scanner lies in the region of 3200 lines per inch, but to achieve it, you need to scan in 7200 mode, followed by correction in Photoshop. This will complicate and greatly slow down the work. In the 3600 lines mode, we get a real resolution in the region of 2600 lines per inch. This is absolutely sufficient for scanning amateur films or films shot with film cameras, but there are doubts about professional-quality photographic materials. However, thanks to the moderate price, the scanner can be forgiven a lot.

I like it, thanks for the quality product.

In general, the product leaves a good impression, but the shortcomings of the included software and the inability to work with narrow films do not allow us to give this device from Plustek the highest score.

Pros
  • Fairly high-quality scanning of film and slides. Simple enough control of basic functions for the average user. The build quality is unquestionable, as development and production is carried out in Taiwan, and not in the basement firms of mainland China.
Cons
  • Problematic bundled software SilverFast SE Plus 8, the cost of which makes up the majority of the total purchase. As far as you can understand, this is a third-party program from the German company LaserSoft Imaging. There is not enough intelligible support for the 2022 language, and there are also significant "jambs" when scanning positive films, when the automatic removal of dust and scratches is selected. Sometimes the scanned image turns into a completely defective frame of large "pixel cubes". This is especially true for black and white positives. Since the scanner was recently purchased, the next time you turn it on, SilverFast SE Plus 8 offered a free upgrade to version 9. After a lot of "dancing with a tambourine", I still managed to install it on the current version of Windows X Pro. In 9-ke, improved support for the 2022 language and a slightly ated version of the interface were noted. The joy, however, was short-lived. After the third launch, SilverFast 9 began to "slam", although the 8th version continued to work without problems. As a result, it was decided to no longer experiment with the "nine" out of harm's way. Another disadvantage is the inability to scan narrow films 16 and 8 mm wide, although for many users this is a very desirable option. Curiously, many of the much more affordable scanners come with the appropriate frames and software for processing narrow film stock.

I am amazed! It was definitely worth the money!

To digitize a large home archive, what is needed, because of the "pair" of films, it is naturally not worth taking. the advantages greatly outweigh the disadvantages. With its pros: It produces good quality scans, you can squeeze quite a lot using the program settings even from bad, scratched films. Compact size, plus a convenient case with a handle for carrying and storing. The program has a lot of settings even in a stripped-down SE version. . There is a separate frame for slides, in addition

Reliable purchase, guaranteed to be a good purchase.

I took to replace the failed Minolta DiMage Scan Elite 5400, I expected some deterioration in quality when scanning negatives. It turned out exactly the opposite - the scanner pierces the film much more clearly, giving excellent results even on the machine! The image initially turns out to be juicier, more voluminous and an order of magnitude more detailed. I did not expect, thanks Plustek! Rescan the archive again, or what? :)

Pros
  • small size, noiseless operation, good equipment, silverfast included.
Cons
  • manual film advance

In general, the scanner can be rated at "4". To scan a small archive of films, an amateur photographer will do, but it takes patience and a lot of time. Moreover, there are no special alternatives on the market now. After fixing the blue color problem, it became very good. You can focus on the actual scanning. During the time that has passed since the purchase of the scanner, I scanned 105 films. The process is fine. I scan at 3600 dpi. One frame takes an average of 5 minutes.

Pros
  • Unexpected good quality of the resulting scans, though at a significant cost of time. High-quality assembly of the scanner itself. The function of removing scratches and dust due to infrared scanning works great. ates to the scanning program are released regularly.
Cons
  • - A little clear menu of the SilverFast program, with the help of which you can only scan - this scanner is "not seen" by other graphic programs. It takes a lot of time to figure out what's what. The description is of little help. You have to use the poke method and common sense. - I think the main drawback is the color shift to blue during the main scan at a resolution higher than 1800 ppi, despite the fact that the color balance is in perfect order on the preview. No adjustments help to change this (at least I did not find any). I only noticed that while the scanner is cold - there is no color shift. This effect weakened after installing a fresh driver, made on the advice of SilverFast support. Now, 2022.03.24 there are no problems with wrong colors. It seems that with the latest ates to the scanning program, this problem has been solved. - There is no mechanization of film feeding for scanning. It is required to sit side by side and advance the frame with a piece of film one frame at a time (no more than 6 frames)

Good product, not disappointed.

I'll start with the good) the best scanning option is Quick scan jpg 24 bit - quickly and efficiently. Ideal for those who shoot on advanced film DSLRs with 35mm film. Developed, sliced, scanned (add 10 units of contrast and VOILA normal photos). You can experiment with SilverFast but I think it's good for older films or where a wide range of colors is needed. Frankly infuriates the design of the frame for the film and the receiving hole in the scanner. It was possible to make everything much

Pros
  • compactness, build quality, quiet operation,
Cons
  • film cutting

I bought it in the summer, I'm satisfied, but . The assembly is terrible, the buttons are loose, the rubber frames on the sides are peeling off. The frame for the film is flimsy, its dividing strips are thick, the last frames no longer stand up straight. The case is quite convenient, after scanning, you can hide the scanner from dust. SilverFast itself is very buggy: braking, freezing, crashes. The scanner scans quickly (I scan at 3600dpi, TIFF, then I convert and compress for the web, it works

Pros
  • 1) scan quality. 2)silver fast with its tools is good on its own, but often crashes. 3) a convenient bag with protective inserts.
Cons
  • 1) buggy Silver Fast. 2) disgusting frame for negatives. 3) poor assembly

A really necessary purchase, Im glad I found this product.

There is a feeling that underexposed negatives are scanned much better than overexposed or overdeveloped ones; with dark shamanism more. Remove defects - for an amateur, because. the program sometimes does it superbly, and sometimes it's better to disable this feature altogether. Since since childhood, when I was engaged in a photo studio, all my cuts are 7-frame, a lot of nuances have arisen here, because. Included is a frame for 6-frame cutting and does not have "overhangs" where you could…

Pros
  • Easy to use, compact enough device for home use. Sufficiently nimble in various modes. The bag included for storage is a trifle and a pleasant necessity.
Cons
  • Haven't found it yet. Color-wise, I haven't tried it yet.

A really necessary purchase, Im glad I found this product.

While I’m only scanning color negatives, I really liked the dust removal function, you don’t even have to clean the film), I don’t know how others have a lot of blue, the scan is normal during the preliminary scan, but everything is blue on the main scan, you have to remove the blue to a minimum and then it’s fine .

Everything is fine, there are only minor drawbacks.

I have been using it 1-2 times a month at work for more than two years. Histological slides are placed in the film frame (the manufacturer has a model specifically for histology, but it is not supplied to us). The resulting quality of overview images is higher than with a cheap 5Mpx USB camera and a stereo microscope (the cost of this kit is more than 100). For lack of a better option, it is an acceptable and very budgetary option for obtaining overview images of histological preparations.

Pros
  • The quality is incomparably higher than that of tablets with the ability to scan film. Works.
Cons
  • Silver Fast included in my opinion is an overly cumbersome program, there is a quick scan mode at the touch of a button, but it, in turn, is too simplified.

Wonderful quality, one hundred percent satisfied!

The build quality does not cause me any complaints, the buttons play, but this does not affect anything - it's more of a design feature, not a bad build. Everything else is good. The frames are excellent compared to the Epson tablet. Scanning quality in my comparison (in ascending order): Epson tablet -> minilabs -> Plustek 8200. Its disadvantages are the common disadvantages of most filmmakers: cut film in 6 frames; scratches on the film are very noticeable compared to a flatbed (IR scanning…

Pros
  • Quality, price, features (multi-exposure and infrared cleaning)
Cons
  • Cut the film (a controversial minus - we cut the film once and store it in sliver, it is convenient and good for the film), manual film feed, slow during multiple exposure and IR scanning, SilverFast glitchy

Bought to digitize old negatives. I expected that everything would be much worse, but the scan quality was surprisingly pleasing. In quick scan mode, it scans a frame for 3 minutes, in intelliscan mode with IR pass - 15 minutes per frame. For a long time. But it completely removes scratches and dust from the frame. Why the scanner has rubber bumpers on the sides and a bag-cover in the kit - I did not understand, it is not supposed to be carried with you. Silverfast is an extremely…

Pros

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like everything, the price and the quality are both ok.

In general, there is a detailed analysis of this device on the net - in fact, it simply inflates the scan by 4000 to 7000. But this device is attractive in price. It's not a hundred thousand after all. Has pros: Took for digitization of a home photo archive. Of the pluses - a relatively low price, good scan quality from a color negative. Works generally fast at low resolutions. It’s profitable to buy it if you scan about a thousand frames yourself, give it somewhere to scan - the amount will be

The software bundled with the SilverFast 8 SE leaves much to be desired. Quite difficult to understand and master. Old drivers used to shift colors to blue, now this seems to have been fixed. But most importantly, this software does not allow you to save a file with a color depth of 48bit with hardware cleaning from iSRD dust and scratches in RAW format at the output. To do this, you need to buy the SilverFast Ai Studio editor for 300 Euros. Therefore, through long experiments, I settled on…

Pros
  • Good scan quality, though at a significant cost of time. To digitize an archive of amateur photographic films (I mean Svema, Kodak, Polaroid films taken on cameras Smena, FED, Zenith, "soap dishes" of the 90s), the possibilities of technology are enough for the eyes. If you have professional fine-grained film and photo masterpieces, then of course Nikon scanners are better, but this is a completely different price category.
Cons
  • There is no automatic film feeder - this would greatly facilitate the scanning process. In addition, the film must be cut into 6 frames. I did not find any files for the film on sale. I had to take ordinary transparent files for A4 paper and use a soldering iron to separate them into pockets for the film. The rubber bands (hiding screws) on the sides of the scanner also periodically fall off, but this does not affect the quality of the scan. And, of course, the price bites.
