Review on Sunsun Hw304B Canister Filter Kit with 525GPH Flow 🐠 Rate and 9-watt UV Sterilizer: Efficient Aquarium Water Purification Solution by Crystal Palmer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

After 5 years of operation. Great filter for the money, a few things to note

SO! I've been using this Sun Sun HW-304B since November 2015 and just replaced it. I'd say 5 years for less than $100 is a lot, *mostly* uptime. So what to be aware of: Leakage - I haven't had a sealing problem so far, so after 5 years of the original o-ring. . Leakage only occurred when the filter failed or cavitated. Of course, the replacement never leaks. UV - I do NOT recommend running UV as the plastic is not UV resistant. see pictures in normal and after use). I probably only used UV 2 out of 5 years. While this is a minor performance hit for me, I've never needed UV in a tropical freshwater aquarium, only some salts and ponds. Loss of suction - this is actually air accumulation/cavitation on the impeller. The small skimmer port *sucks* in enough air when not submerged in water for this to happen regularly. You can solve this problem in several ways. rather than a breach of contract terms. Overall I think this is a 4 star filter. I'm a hobbyist and have worked in fish departments for over 30 years and love the practicality over Flash. This filter is exactly that, good value for money, one of the main features is a complete failure (but I don't care at all). Add your own media, although the materials provided are fine if you don't want to overcomplicate things, they just save a bit on biocarrier parts. Hope this helps, have fun with your tanks!
