Just received a few minutes ago. I wanted to post now in case the info is helpful. I've used canning equipment before and thought it would be nice to share the information. They come with something like petroleum jelly - this is for the little rubber rings on the plunger that hold the suction. This helps maintain a high level of suction in the hose and is gentle on the rubber itself. The kit lay loose in a cardboard shipping box, mine had a few short dark hairs (not frizzy thank goodness) none of the plungers were in the same position as you would expect from a new factory kit and some greases had a yellow tint. This is a notice that you do not have to return or discard such a kit. . More power to you if you do this - I ABSOLUTELY get it. But if you don't want that, you can clean the set as follows. - Unscrew the piston completely and the piston will fall out. - Soak the parts in cleaner and then thoroughly clean each part with a soft sponge. DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS OR A SPONGE FOR CLEANING. I use Dawn antibacterial dish soap and hot water and after sanitizing I will soak them in alcohol. Using the cotton swab, apply some petroleum jelly (or oil of your choice) to the inside of the tube (not the top) and reinsert the plunger by screwing it in until it reaches the added lubricant. Push the plunger up and down a few times so that it hits the rubber rings. ALTERNATIVELY, you can simply lubricate the end of the plunger at the rubber rings with petroleum jelly or oil, then put the plunger back into the tube, screw it in until it reaches the top of the tube, then wipe the inside of the tube if you like. . I would recommend wiping it down before storing. Put them in a zippered bag to keep dust out, or use them right away.
