Review on ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Nicama SGM5 Cardioid Condenser Interview Microphone: Ideal for DSLR Camera Nikon Canon Sony Mirrorless Camera DV Camcorder by Nathan Pintac

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent sound quality, slightly thin mounting

This is an active microphone and therefore it runs on 2 AAA batteries. The benefit of such an amplified microphone is that it can mitigate the background noise created when your camera's internal amplifier loads the signal from passive microphones. Remember to turn off the device after use, otherwise the batteries in your gear bag will be discharged. When the switch was in the "on" position, the sound quality was good, with no obvious hiss. When using the 10dB attenuator, you can expect very little noise since the camera's internal amplifier has to gain more to compensate for the loss in input amplitude. no effect, probably because I tested it in a relatively low-noise environment. It will probably be more useful outdoors in windy weather. This mic didn't come with a "dead cats" windscreen, so that was a possible downside. Also, the mount was a bit flimsy, but its "spring force" probably helps a little to muffle noise when handling the camera. The cable is an integral part of the microphone (cannot be removed) so this particular microphone is not a good fit. for use with a mobile phone. Overall I think this is a decent deal for an active microphone. A wind cover and a couple of included AA batteries would be nice additions, as would the ability to switch cords and use it with a cellphone.
