I recently switched from Canon to Fujifilm and am very glad I did. I love the compact size of all Fuji models and this lens is no exception. This small lens fits in a jacket pocket, but don't let its size fool you. It performs well and is one of the best lenses I've ever used. CONSTRUCTION: The construction of this lens is first class. It's nice to see that camera lenses are made of METAL and not plastic like almost all Canon lenses. Even my $700 Canon macro lens is plastic! The tightness of this lens makes it very attractive for those who need to work outdoors, for example in landscape photography. Combine this with a weatherproof camera housing and you have the perfect outdoor kit. It has very strong construction, smooth surface and amazing feel. MAINTENANCE: The autofocus motor in this lens is not only lightning fast and extremely accurate, but also virtually silent. You basically have to hold the lens right up to your ear to hear it, and even then it's very quiet. The focus ring and aperture are buttery smooth. The focal length of 35mm (equivalent to 50mm full frame) makes this lens versatile and a good choice for many different photographic applications such as portraits and even some landscapes. Opening. This also makes it a good choice for low-light shots. It's not as wide as its f/1.4 cousin, but it does hold its own in less-than-ideal lighting conditions. It also has excellent contrast and color rendering. The attached photos were taken straight from the camera and shot at f/2 wide open to illustrate the sharpness in the foreground and the beautiful blur in the background. GENERAL: I can't say enough good things about this lens. I honestly can't say anything bad about it. It's compact and light, has solid metal construction, is sealed, blazing sharp, with creamy bokeh at f/2, quiet, fast and accurate autofocus, and is half the price of its f/1.4 sibling, which lacks almost everything what i just saw I also want to point out the little things that Fuji put in their lenses that many other manufacturers don't have, like the lens case and lens hood. At Canon, both are separate additional costs for the customer. So thanks to Fuji for including these things for free. That means a lot to the customer and says a lot about Fujifilm.
