First of all I really like this hitch. It looks great, is very durable and until yesterday was doing exactly what it was designed to do. The internal locking mechanism used to raise/lower the hitch and change the size of the balls cannot be disengaged. Clear up; When I remove the dust cover and put the key in the cylinder, the lock turns but doesn't release the locking pin that holds the actual clutch component to the shaft. If you look at the online pictures, you can see the "shark fin" mount is stuck in the up position. Thus, removal of the hitch assembly is prevented. No PB blaster or similar tool allowed the lock to be released. Granted, it still works, and I know there's a $20 2-inch to 2-5/16-inch adapter, but that's not what the $300 hook is about. Not to mention that the 2-inch bullet is rated at 8,000 pounds and the 2-5/16-inch is rated at 14,500 pounds. So this would obviously limit towing capacity - not a solution I'm interested in. I don't tow all the time and don't tow anywhere near my truck's towing limits (see below), but when I do, there's no reason to be restricted. bottom line; I'm disappointed that in a year of ownership and good clutch maintenance I wasn't able to swap out the 2" ball for a 2-5/16" ball just when I needed it most - moving time. About me and how I use it / Care of the towbar: Towbar was purchased in May 2020. I ride a 19 RAM 2500 and live in Colorado. Last summer it was used to store a sled - to pull a 14ft closed trailer (2" ball) and then a car tractor (2-5/16" ball) maybe 3 or 4 times. It was then used to tow quads/trailers for a friend. That's all, and the hitch was under my back seat until about November. Then in the winter I only pulled the trailer (12 times). I always wash my stuff after use (trucks, trailers, ramps, sleds, etc.) and take precautions to remove road grime, dirt, salt, etc. I always put on a dust cover during use and never leave the hitch. unless I'm towing. Thing is, I don't know what else I could have done to prevent this. I've spoken to my dad (he has the same hitch, he keeps it in his desk drawer too and rarely uses it unless he's hauling race cars) and his hitch locking pin is often difficult to loosen. I'm at a loss as to how to release the pin, so I'm disappointed.
