Review on 🚲 Swagman PARK City 6-Bike Rack Stand: Organize and Secure Your Bikes Effortlessly! by Andrew Kay

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Sturdy rack but flaws for modern mountain bikes

Good things first: It's a solid rack made from heavy gauge steel tubing, top notch fit and finish. I am very happy with this aspect of the product. I chose this rack because it allows bikes to be placed on either side to better fit the long shape of the free space in the garage. Assembly is very simple, just 8 nuts and bolts, and it takes about 10 minutes to assemble. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because it doesn't fit all tire sizes contrary to the product description. I really wish the vertical bars were evenly spaced because the six thinner slots don't fit tires wider than about 2.2 inches. When mountain bikes move to tires wider than 2.2 inches, and rims get wider too, they have to go into big gaps - and there are only two of them. I have six family bikes, two of which have tires that are too wide. The bad news is that when changing tires on other bikes I have to treat the trunk as a tire width limit - no need to worry. This caused me to deduct a star. Another star is lost because the 29er tire just doesn't fit. The stand is not high enough. If I tilt the bike I can somehow squeeze it diagonally into one of the wider slots and it kind of stays in place, but it doesn't fit. If they raise the post another inch or two, a 29er tire will fit. Bike parking takes a little planning. Of course, you'll alternate riding front and rear so the handlebars don't interfere with each other. However, you also have to be careful that the wheel of one bike does not hit the brake discs of the other bike. Again, this takes a bit of planning, but evenly spaced vertical slots would make this problem a lot easier. 5 of the 6 bikes I have use disc brakes so this was an issue for me. I'll keep the rack, but I probably wouldn't have bought one at all if I knew the limitations. A different rack would need more space to store bikes, but at least many of these racks don't have wheel size restrictions since they don't have a top bar. I'll live with that for now.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
