No, I know, it is a specific type of nut. You can use a certain size cross head and I'm sure if you are strong enough it will work. Not me. I ran into a few problems when trying to install this. I stuffed my upper lip as other reviews said. It wasn't quite flat, it was slightly curved. I noticed some paint chipping so I flipped the plastic that hit it to the other side and that helped a bit. Noticing the screw heads, I tested my drill with a drill to see if it would work. It seemed so. As I was about to screw them in, I had an impossible time trying to break through the plaster, hold the rod, hold the screw in place and drill through. I had a bar on my shoulder but I just couldn't get a good angle. it's my business But it made me realize that maybe because of the plaster I had drilled a hole for the top hole. So I did. And went spinning. It turned out well. I figured that now that the top one is in, I could forego the pilot and get a stronger grip. I was wrong. I'm done fooling around. One of the main openings was no longer sealed. I took a better piece that turned into a tiny flat head, drilled holes for all three holes on the opposite side and started screwing it in. Big mistake. The screws are short. Because the little hanger wasn't quite flat on top, they didn't reach the wall well. Maybe a centimeter went in at most. I tried going back to the longer screws I had, but the damage was already done. Here, too, the holes can no longer be closed because they are too drilled. If the heads were typical Phillips heads and maybe an inch longer I don't think I would have had as many problems. That's enough for now. In the end I just need to stick some 2x4s in to cover the holes and get a better rod. But I raised the wall with these weird screws. Too bad I would have used my own equipment right away. If you don't have a tree to hang your lip from, consider another pole.
