Review on Maximize Comfort and Control with REDSHIFT ShockStop Suspension 🚲 Stem: The Ultimate Shock-Absorbing Solution for Road, Gravel, Hybrid, and E-Bikes by Jared Barit

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product but not suitable for me.

I had high hopes for this product. I gave it four stars because it's well built, has quality materials and looks great on the bike, but I don't see any practical use. I bought a 100mm 30 degree stem and have flat bars (electric mountain bike) and I can see and feel them move under my weight and under braking, but I don't feel any real shock absorption. I originally bought this one because the reviews were a little higher and way more than another shock with a stem (a Kinekt stem that costs about $20 more). I ride a bike with front and rear suspension and low pressure (25). psi), so the damping of these components may reduce the usefulness of this device. I'll review Kinect when I get it and install it. I tried the unit as it came (70's and 80's elastomers I believe) and then downgraded it to the recommended elastomer for my weight and handlebar style (70's elastomer only) and finally down to the lightest elastomer around to try and reduce the volatility/chatter of gravel and roots under the bike. I didn't see any effect on these light hits like chatter. On big bumps (rocks and 3" roots) I can see it moving, but I find no 'felt' reduction in vibration or shock. I'm sure it has an effect because sometimes I can see the device moving, but I can't tell any real difference. ) compared to when I put my hand on the steering wheel in a normal driving position, and I feel no difference in the severity of shocks and vibrations. I understand this is subjective, but I really wanted the device to make the ride smoother on the handlebars and that's not for me. I have now ordered a Kinekt device and will post my thoughts on it when I get a chance to try it out in comparison. The Kinekt unit uses a coil spring rather than elastomers, which I assume represent more linear damping (as opposed to the likely progressive damping provided by elastomers in this Redshift unit). I'm hoping Kinekt can offer more of the vibration/shock absorption I'm hoping for. Overall, the Redshift suspension stem is well made with quality materials and looks great on the bike, but lacks handlebars. the vibration dampening I was hoping for. Unfortunately I am returning.
