Review on πŸ”§ SPEEDJAW Low Profile Bench: 6-Inch (Model 92748) by Daniel Oliver

Revainrating 3 out of 5

With a few modifications it turned out to be a good vise.

So I built myself a nice workbench that can be folded up and out of the way when I need more garage space, so I needed a low profile vise and the 4 inch version of this vise is what you need. Overall I think it's a pretty good vise, but I had to make some minor tweaks to it to get it right. First thing I noticed was that the two screws holding the vise in place weren't engaging the mounting ring properly. I found the ring was cast iron and the cast line matched all the notches. I took a 7/32" round file and filed each notch so the setscrews now fit properly in the mounting ring. Speaking of the mounting ring, the vise does not come with mounting screws/bolts. I decided to use #10x2 1/2" sheet metal screws to attach the ring to my bench. These were the largest screws I could find, with heads small enough to fit in the countersunk holes of the mounting ring .Then I noticed that I couldn't press the jaw release button deep enough for the quick release function of the vise to work properly button and vise body .I decided to take a flat file to make a gap The 3rd photo seems to show where I needed to load it. When disassembling the vise to solve the knob issue, I found that two long guide bolts could only be hand tightened with a socket wrench .When assembling the vise, I decided to use some threadlocker and tightened it with reasonable force. The first thing I did elal after installation and the start of the vise. To properly sharpen the chain of my chainsaw. That's when I noticed that the face of the jaw liner was almost flush with the neck of the vise. When I clamped the chainsaw bar in a vise, the chain dangled from the neck of the vise. To solve this problem I put some washers between the jaw inserts and the vise which you can see in the 4th picture. After that I was able to turn the chain by hand without any problems. So after some effort and some lubrication, this vise has become a pretty good addition to my garage.
