Review on Sony SELP1650 16 50Mm Power Zoom by Hemant Negi ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not the best quality, but generally not bad.

Like many, having a Sony Nex, with the purchase of this lens, I wanted to get a compact universal camera. Of a good dozen (!) Viewed copies of 16-50, only two could boast of relatively uniform sharpness at a wide angle, despite the fact that at 20-50 mm the picture quality was acceptable to everyone. The point is in the design of the lens - at a wide angle, the rear lens unit has greater mobility . to put it simply, it dangles in the body much more than when zooming towards 50mm. And since there are no settings in the lens, everything is in the hands of the assemblers. Which do not seem to care in the least about whether the image will be of acceptable quality. The same design, completely plastic, makes the lens extremely vulnerable to bumps and bumps in the working position. The case is made of metal - a rather thin ring put on plastic, the main value of which is its appearance. And even if you are lucky with a copy, the image quality at a wide angle will only be satisfactory. The lens is rather weak even for a 16MP sensor, but the desperate Japanese put it in a kit for 24MP cameras. In addition, the electric drive greatly reduces the turn-on speed of the camera. Being turned on, the lens for some reason folds when the camera falls asleep. After that, he no longer remembers what focal length he was set to . The camera wakes up instantly, and the lens lives its own life and spoils everything. If you shoot something like a ballroom dance competition, it will be fun)

Pros
  • Dimensions, weight, image quality for optics from a set (if you're lucky)
Cons
  • Design, poor quality control, price separate from the camera
