Review on ๐Ÿš— BUDDYGO Universal OBD2 Scanner - OBD II CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for Engine Fault Codes on OBDII Protocol Cars Since 1996 (Yellow) by Eric Schwalbe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fast identification by OBD codes!

I pulled a shadow bug and drained the CVT fluid on my Subaru Forester thinking it was an oil pan. (Laugh all you want, a lot of people have done this because the CVT pan is exposed and unmarked, and the oil drain plug is hidden behind a plastic panel.) Anyway, I also poured 5 liters of oil into the engine. When I went to the function check and started the engine, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and told me I was NOT Santa Claus. After a little research online I figured out my problem, refilled the CVT pan, drained the oil and did a proper oil change, but my dash lights were still on. Many Subaru vehicles turn on Check Engine, Hill Start, Traction Control and Flash Cruise Control for EVERY problem with the car - mine was no exception. After a quick five mile test drive with everything working, I ordered this OBD scanner - yes please, for the night. The directions are usually quirky and not always in clear English, but they get the message across. Once you plug in the OBD scanner, start the car and check your VIN, a code P0700 (transmission; big surprise!) is generated, which allows me to document the 'freeze frame' codes (which was the case at the time of the error happened) and clear the error codes. I parked the car and started it again. All my codes were off, the car worked fine and I was able to use cruise control again. So for a $25 scanner and $75 fluid, I saved an average of $400 on dealer repairs. I will keep the scanner for future use. As OBD has been standardized since 1996 I may be able to use it on other cars in the future but if you are changing the oil on a Subaru make sure you pull the correct plug!
