Review on Secure and Spacious: Discover the Carlson Maxi Pet Gate for Ultimate Pet Safety and Freedom by Tara Laven

A good buy for your purposes. Disadvantage Attention!

PROS: Pet Door! The only gate on the market that my cats can pass through unhindered. For those wondering, cats don't fit between the bars. It fits our staircase and I don't have to buy multiple pieces. Our ladder is 51 inches long, so we're on the smallest end of the scale. The pet door opens in both directions. We attached it with a bungee cord. If necessary, you can temporarily remove all gates! There are ledges to move the gate (see photo #1). It was nice when we needed a bigger opening to move boxes etc, but impractical when you have to take it off every day. The spacers are screwed into the walls and I would be concerned that they would come loose due to the frequent jarring when the gate is removed frequently. We added anchors before installing the screws! They do not come with the gate but I highly recommend you attach the gate to the drywall. CONS: You cannot center the gate/door in the middle of your stairs. It can only be assembled on one side as shown in the photos. The door/gate is narrow for adults Turn sideways to get through and try not to bump your knees each time as you are most likely going up and down stairs at the same time. are different in size. I understand. But here, for example, your standard child seat/child seat is too wide. You'll have to raise the seat every time it gets heavy as your child grows (and you'll still have to walk sideways instead of hitting your knees). As others have suggested, the main door only opens in one direction. Really think about which direction you want it to rock before you install it. The pet door is large enough for a child to climb through. Please supervise your child or close the pet door. Pain during installation if you have baseboards. (See photo #2). But at least you can adjust the top/bottom as needed if you attach it to the drywall at the top and to the baseboards at the bottom. The package comes with a drill pad pre-measured for the distance between the top and bottom. The way it assembles for my height (51 inches) you can't add a leg brace that helps stabilize the middle. This is the only gate on the market that has a pet door, I'll end up buying it anyway.
