Review on TireChain Com Emergency Chains Pick Up Trucks by Matthew Maxwell

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Too weak for a light truck

Light snow (few inches) on a hard-packed gravel road. An empty Suburban is stuck with excessive force in a pothole on perfectly level ground - the front driver's wheel in a ditch, which lifts the rear passenger and I tremble. Attached the chains to the rear axle, put the truck on 4- here (the front axle doesn't engage, so I just give my rear axle a low range) and gave it some fuel. I immediately felt the tracks dig into the ground and after 5 seconds, with no excessive throttle and wheel spin, I was out of the pothole. You worked like a champ! Until I took them off and realized the chains had apparently been used once. I'm sure they're great for cars under 5,000 (lbs; maybe more like 3,000 or less), but for an 8,000+ application they're just too light. Unfortunately I think they have heavier versions. but not with icebreaker spikes. and icebreaker ducks on oil metal aren't good so you'll have to make your own. Seriously chain and belt and I could get 80% of what I use off the shelf but with parts that are 10x stronger and probably around the same price. I will be returning them and the kit I got for my front axle (just need a new actuator, waiting for parts).

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Null
