DOA HDD - Serviceable after receiving a replacement from WD

Because it took me five months to buy all the parts I needed for my new computer and I knew when I bought this hard drive first I didn't what it was a dead hard drive until a few days ago. And of course, Revain.com only gives customers 30 days to return an item, not five months. So now I'm stuck on the WD support site to get a new drive. When I receive a working replacement hard drive, I will either update this post or post a new review for this product. This drive has 3 stars because of WD support. The anger and anger I now have at WD should give this drive one star, but as I said, the drive is actually very good. Warning: If you are using Windows 10 and you buy a new WD drive. (although I've heard Seagate has or had the same issue), the TrueImage software found on the WD support site will NOT clone a good copy of Windows 10 to a new drive! The software manufacturer will happily sell you their own complete software with all sorts of add-ons (which I didn't need) at a rather high price for a program that the average user rarely needs. The price of this software is now beyond my means. I've just spent a small fortune in my budget to build a new PC, it's not too much to throw away a software package that only has one function I need. Warning 2: Be wary of the low cost and free options you will find. Search for disk cloning software. Most of them are pure junk that doesn't even work for one reason or another (and in some cases can end up on the spam list if you give them your email address). On the second day of searching I finally found a software that offered a free version of their software that allowed me to clone a Windows 10 hard drive. Search for DriveClone if you are in the same situation I am in found. It worked. I'm still mad at WD, even more so after trying to tell them I found a solution, only to see their support form not working for me. Today. I just wanted to tell them that I finally got the damn drive working with a cloned copy of Windows 10 from my old drive and that I don't need the RMA they sent me which I didn't request. also pissed off at Acronis, the makers of the OEM versions of the software that WD and Seagate offer on their support pages. The full version of their software is too expensive for the average person and most of us will rarely need it. Acronis offers a free trial, but the catch is that the cloning tool is disabled in the trial. Beep, beep, beep and so on. Ready to fight now. MACJR
