
During the transition from the TH400 to the TH200R4 I ran a fluid line from the transmission to the filter and then through the static cooler at the front of the car. Since this is a show car and sits idle a lot during parades, I decided to add this Derale Hyper-Cool as an extra safety margin before the fluid returns to the transmission. Logic dictated that I should replace all of my old hoses with the new hose that came with the kit. BIG MISTAKE! The hose is so soft that it tears the steel lines, even though it is double clamped with lined clamps. The first time I thought I forgot to tighten the clamps and redid them all to be sure, but I lost another connection. Then I paid a premium for bulging steel lines. This fixed the problem, but then the hose broke in the middle and oil leaked into the engine, underbody and transmission. Only 14 liters of used synthetic gear oil, three 50 pound bags of drying oil and 63 hours of oil cleaning of show car components. Most of the plug packs included in the kit are not used and the thermostat does not work at all. . I have a manual switch hooked up and use it when my temp gauge reads 180 degrees. It would be nice if the cooler would do that on its own. The plate cooler seems to be well made and the fan works well. Apparently they're only available as a complete kit, so I don't condone wasting money on a complete kit with unnecessary parts. I suggest you save money and time by buying any cooler, buying an oil temp gauge, adding a fan with a thermostat or a manual switch. and connect everything with USA-made Gates transmission hose, which can withstand pressures of up to 300psi at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
