I bought this Weller Cutter as an experiment. I sew quite a bit for my powerboat and sailboat and I have to cut sunbrella and other synthetic fabrics. I needed a way to cut the fabric along the straight cut edge without the typical fraying. Sail Rite offers a "hot knife" that looks great but costs over $100. Decided to try some cutting tips to match my Weller trigger-activated soldering iron. I bought a Cooper Tools 6110 cutting head and a Weller RTC 8200 head. The 6110 copper head comes ready to install with the nuts already installed. It took 1 minute to remove my original soldering tip and install the 6100 cutting tip. I plugged in a soldering iron, activated the trigger for about 30 seconds, and attempted to cut through the lightweight nylon tab. The tip cuts effortlessly, cleanly and perfectly seals the edge. Then I tried regular Sunbrella fabric and got the same good results. If you need a solution for cutting synthetic fabrics and already have a Weller soldering iron, I highly recommend the 6110 tip. The 8200 comes with no nuts installed, so I've yet to try it to cut nylon cord.
