This is a very smart tool that does an important job very well. Although I bought the 3/16" size, I use it to countersink plywood for 1/4" mounting screws. After that, I have to enlarge the hole to fit the 1/4" screw, but the countersink is perfect every time. The benefit of a smaller initial hole size is that any crack in the veneer will likely be covered by the diameter of the countersink. I don't have any Having trouble forming a big enough countersink for a 1/4 screw head I set the depth gauge a little higher than the maximum so the head of the screw sits a little proud when hand tightened Wood a little and the head sits flush. There is enough counterbore diameter to countersink the cap screws 1/4 inch below flush.
