2.5 year security clearance

UPDATE: I have owned this gate for 2.5 years now. Aside from the aforementioned hardware issues, I have to say this is a great gate. Today I installed a gate at the top of the stairs in my new home. Luckily this house has dry stone walls on both sides of the stairs at the top. Here I was able to attach the gate hardware to the studs on either side with 2" drywall screws. This made the installation very reliable. What I like most about the design is the care taken with the gate being fully adjustable. The adjustment points provided, from coarse to fine are enough to perfectly fit the gate to your opening.I've just ordered another one that goes to the bottom of the stairs. As for the screw problem on my first install, the problem was most likely that I was in screwed a hardwood dowel. The screws provided are probably drywall screws. A WARNING. Use your own screws. Even when pre-drilling, 3 screw heads broke off and 1 almost broke off. Before I knew it, 1 broke off and I couldn't remove it! Talk about it Disappointment Kidco scored a great goal but the MAIN thing was dropping the ball on the kit in. To be honest, it doesn't cost much to provide a slightly higher standard of gear. As a mechanical engineer I can say these are VERY cheap wood screws and they are very thin where the threads meet the head where the maximum stress is transferred to the screw! Bad move! In turn, if you buy your own equipment, you have excellent goals. If not, you'll end up with sharp, broken, dangerous screws sticking out of your new post, waiting to cut someone up!

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
