When it comes to aquarium circulation, there are many options. The least expensive option is the traditional powerhead and most powerheads come with a package full of connection options, but ultimately they don't make the most attractive presentation for your show tank. , EcoTech Vortech and some others. I chose the Tunze 6095 for my tank. It was a real choice between Tunze and Vortech, but the deciding factor initially was the very low profile on the outside of the tank. With the Tunze, the main power supply/motor is located inside the aquarium, with only a small (relatively) magnet visible from the outside. In the Vortech's case, the impeller is inside the aquarium, but the motor is outside of the aquarium, and dangling that big black motor from the outside of your aquarium along with a power supply cable that seems like a very sloppy setup to me seems like a very shoddy setup can never be laid neatly under the aquarium. However some may say that the engine heats up less outside of the tank and whilst that is true I have not noticed any noticeable difference in the temperature of my 93g tank when running the Tunze (and I have 2 of them). For those familiar with Tunze, you will agree that Tunze products are usually the most expensive of any type of product you are looking for, but with that price comes unmatched quality and engineering. I was very impressed when I unpacked and assembled my first Tunze 6095. All components are made of high quality plastic or rubber and everything is put together very elegantly. Attaching the Tunze to the tank wasn't a problem and as mentioned above my tank is just a small black disc (magnet) on the outside, inside is the power supply and power cord, but against the black background it all fits together really well. As far as power/flow goes, I have a 93 tank. I was very surprised at how much water this pump actually pumps. At first I thought I made a mistake going for the largest Tunze model, but believe me, this pump really pumps a lot of water. If I had to say one negative thing about this product, I would say that Tunze has not made it too easy to adjust the speed of this pump. The pump comes with a pack of resistors and to change the speed you need to unplug the resistor and set it to a different size. These are small clear plastic pieces marked with different voltages. 24V, 22V, 20V etc. Choosing the highest level will cause the pump to spin fastest, lower voltages will obviously slow the pump down. It would be much better if there was a knob on the power supply that you could turn to adjust the speed. turn the pump on and off and adjust the speed (up to the limit set by the resistance). I connected 2 of these pumps to a Tunze 7096 and the water circulation in my pool is great. I've been told, although I haven't researched this, that if you choose to go that route, you can connect these pumps to an Apex controller instead of using a Tunze controller.
