Review on Quad Trimmer Carbon Steel Blades by Cameron Rosa

Not the best of knife blades

I had high hopes for this but couldn't get consistent results. Overall, I messed up more edge tape than I succeeded. This can work well on composite materials like melamine, but for wood I would look elsewhere. The biggest problem, as mentioned in some other reviews, is that the grain can change direction within the piece or it takes a little time to figure out which direction the grain is moving. The cuts from it are pretty aggressive and can easily rip the tape off. I've found that using an ox nose rabbit plane works a lot better and I can get closer to the finished edge, it just takes a lot longer. Another tip I can give is to place a half inch thick piece of wood on the router table next to the router but without touching it. Place the surface cutting attachment in the router and raise it until it is just under a half inch thick piece of wood. Maybe 1/1000th of an inch lower. Do some exercise contractions. You don't want to bite beyond the surface of half an inch of wood. You can then take your piece of wood by the edge and pull it over the edge of the half inch board and over the drill bit. The drill bit cuts the edge flush without the usual hassles of sealing a bearing. Taking a bit with an angled blade will give you a clean cut and also avoid sticking issues. I came across this technique from another site and it's the best I've found so far.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Okay for the most part, but...
