Review on ๐Ÿ” Amprobe 3474968 RLD-1 Refrigerant Leak Detector: Expert Solution for Detecting Refrigerant Leaks by Shah Moser

Revainrating 5 out of 5

There is a slight learning curve. Easy to use, finds leaks quickly.

Unlike many other leak detectors (e.g. natural gas) where it turns on and works, you really need to LEARN how to use this probe. I watched some online videos and read the manual before using it. The detector has a warm-up time and must be in the room where it will be used. As a result, it adapts to the filling level of the surrounding gas - it is extremely sensitive. If there is a leak and it "heats up" in another room, you'll find that it beeps like crazy in the room where there's a leak, not just near the air conditioner. If you turn it on near the air conditioner, it may not detect a leak as it ignores the refrigerant level in the area. You also need to know when to switch between sensitivity levels. There are three of them - low, medium and high. The average value is used by default and is automatically selected at power on or reset. The device is powered by two C-type batteries or AC power. The adapter is included in the scope of delivery. If you're using an AC adapter without batteries, I recommend using velcro or something to secure the connector to the sensor - I found the connector to pop out of the sensor VERY easily. Once you learn how to use the sensor, you will find that it is easy to use. The long, flexible probe makes it easy to explore everything from above, below and all around.
