Review on Single Phase Energy Electric DDS015 by Fred Maki

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Working but not UL listed

I use this to measure how much current is going into my electric car charger. Pros: So far it works for as long as I need it (1 week) and it's very cheap. Accepts 240V (2 hot wires) with no neutral or ground, although the circuitry on it is more like a 120V configuration. The spade terminals are large enough and tight enough to handle the current rating. I used cable #6 because I carry 40A max. It fits into a cheap metal case (Halex HNF60R) with a cut out for the display. Cons: It's not UL listed so I'm not sure if it won't melt and catch fire. I originally bought a plastic electrical box with a clear lid for it, but figured a metal case would be a bit more secure. The instructions aren't very good, but if you're electrically savvy and confident enough to ignore the circuitry and connect a hot one to the L IN side and a hot one to the N IN side (to get a 240V to create a circuit), then you will be fine. OK. The front panel clearly states the nominal voltage of 230V, so I trust it.

Pros
  • Electrical
Cons
  • Minor repairability
