I might use it wrong but I turn it off when cooking. When I'm ready to release pressure, I point the spout neck in a safe direction, push the spout all the way down onto the sealant handle, and tilt it toward the spout. This opens the sealant's grip wide, causing steam to flow through the spout in a frightening manner. But it's still chilly outside so I can leave it in place until all the pressure is gone. Quick and easy and I no longer steam my closets.
