I originally used another one piece HDMI to DVI adapter to connect my Raspberry Pi to an old DVI monitor. It worked for a while, then the monitor started flashing when the Pi was powered on. In a last ditch effort to get the setup working again, I decided to try this adapter. I used an old DVI cable to go from this adapter to the monitor and then connected the HDMI end of the adapter to the Pi. Went like clockwork! no more flashing screen. My guess is that the other adapter lost signal somewhere and just wasn't putting out enough signal to keep the monitor on all the time. This adapter appears to be of very good build quality and still works great to run retropie on that old monitor. I think it was money well spent!
