I can finally boot from NVMe M.2 drives on my old workstation. I'm running Windows 10 on a SuperMicro X9DAi Dual Xeon motherboard with no M.2 or U.2 slots. I installed a 16-port Broadcom/LSI 9400-16i controller and two LSI Logic cables P/N 05-50065-00 that support four x4 NVMe drives. I use these awesome tool-less M.2 to U.2 ICY DOCK adapters to install four Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe Series 2TB M.2 PCI-Express 3.0 x4 SSDs. I'm currently testing a SilverStone TP02-M2 heatsink for M.2 SSDs. The old BIOS is set to UEFI boot mode and recognizes the controller and NVMe drives. Windows 10 boots from them immediately with the default driver with no issues and no speed issues at all. I couldn't be happier with the combo. I just don't see an option to upgrade my motherboard and Xeon processors until Intel moves to PCIe 4.0 and downscales its Xeon processors to 7nm. And no, I'm not switching to AMD and their ECC junk. I'll wait for Intel and when the time comes I'll upgrade to a 7nm Xeon Gold with PCIe 4.0 and full ECC support! This has breathed new life into my old system running older Intel SATA SSDs with an LSI 9200 series SAS controller. This is the best upgrade I have made since installing an nVidia 2080 TI card. I would highly recommend the combo to my geek friends!
