I bought this to mount my Sony Alpha 55 camera on a Manfrotto monopod. It fits perfectly on the monopod and the quick release mechanism is very trustworthy. I've never worried about it showing up and my camera with a 'new' (actually 'like new' from Revain inventory is a great place to find great deals!) 18-200 lens drops. The reason I attached the star is because it was almost impossible to get the quick release plate to stay on the camera. I understand that the weight of the lens can momentarily apply enough force to make the camera try to unscrew itself from the mount, but I can't help but think that a more gripping surface - perhaps textured rubber - would resist it. more effective. I will swap the pads for rubber.
