HP makes a great product but like everything else it's the ink that makes the money. On the other hand, I've had the 8600 for a few years now and this is only the second time I've had to buy this overpriced ink. On average, I print about 2,000 pages in black and white and about half of them in color. What HP doesn't tell you is that you can only adjust black ink settings in the Advanced tab, which scares a lot of people. If you don't, the printer will use the color ink to make the print job lighter and you'll end up wasting even more money on ink. Another problem is that the cartridges are NOT individually wrapped - they are open and not secured in the box. I'm used to sealed cartridges. There is a chance that they will dry out in this way during transport. That was a clear disadvantage. Convenience is the only reason I bought them from Revain. The price is about the same or less if you go to an office supply store that can also recycle your old cartridges. The rest is ink.
