I bought them so he was looking for one Mouthguard that doesn't bother you. Most sports mouthguards require a closed jaw, which allows me to breathe through my nose or breathe awkwardly through my mouth. They had to keep their mouths open to breathe freely. First off, there have been many reviews on here about how the fitting process ruins or otherwise messes up the mouthpiece. IT IS NOT TRUE. Those posters mentioned that it melts when cooked. True, but YOU SHOULD NOT COOK IT. You boil water, then pour the water into a glass bowl and *then* stick the mouthpiece into the water. Followed the instructions and everything went perfect, easy and the first time. Coming to practicality, the mouthpiece took a bit of getting used to, but not by much. By the third day, when I went up with it, I got used to holding it in my mouth. This makes it difficult to swallow, but since my teeth have separated I can breathe very freely. Sits well, uncomfortable. I got this to protect my teeth when I'm wincing and worried about breaking something while lifting weights. The mouthpiece is ideal for this. I can bite down as hard as I want without pain or fear of damaging my teeth. One less worry during training. As for the claim that it helps you lift harder, I haven't noticed any difference. Not even a few pounds. I've been training for a year now and maybe a beginner will notice the difference? However, since it is intended for weightlifters, I would say that based on my experience, that statement is not true. I saw a few people on weightlifting forums claiming that it didn't make a difference for them either, but there are a few people who said they thought it worked a bit. Take it how you like, but don't expect anything magical.
