Review on Warmth and Durability: Heritage Winter Work Gloves in Black by Christopher Pfaffe

Revainrating 4 out of 5

They survived by working in the nursery during the Christmas tree season.

I work in a nursery and we have to wear things like gloves and boots more than many other jobs I know. Everything we encounter is wet, dirty, heavy and rough. Use those cheap rubber coated disposable work gloves so I wanted something that wouldn't turn my hands into icicles while also being more durable than a standard pair of cold weather gloves. Waterproofing was REQUIRED as we work rain or shine, snow or sleet. In fact, some people seem to prefer tree shopping during heavy rain. And a wet tree gets soaked to the bone in seconds when you have to hug it, pick it up, and put it on the car roof. Pros: IT SURVIVED THE SEASON and I still use them for stuff. I think they will last a few more seasons. The only durability issue I had was when I was in a hurry and tried to move a stuck chainsaw blade with my gloved hands (the saw was out of my head, it was safe) and in my rush I grabbed a sharp tooth just right and through the outer layer cut one of the fingers of the glove. I noticed that the inside of the glove looks like latex or some other rubbery water-repellent layer, but I was still dry despite the hole. Just put some tape on it to make sure it doesn't leak. It's A TON warmer than the cotton/gum colors we're used to. WASHABLE, my regular disposable gloves are washable but it seems they never come out. clean, they always stink to high heaven after a short time. Cons: The grip is good but not the best compared to a disposable rubber grip. But that leather palm grip is enough to make it work well. It's difficult to do small tasks like tying knots, that's not surprising. Not as warm as I was hoping, on a cold day (12 degrees for example) it's better than nothing and certainly better than what I still use, but in terms of warmth I was hoping for more. I often found myself pulling my fingers out of the finger parts and using the glove more like a mitten when I wasn't using my hand for anything. However, as I said, they are much warmer than regular work gloves and have done a lot to prevent the common frostbite rash I get on my hands when it's cold and wet. for similar purposes or as part of an emergency kit that may require winter work gloves that you can rely on. My advice: if they can last a season at my job, they'll probably be in excellent condition for the average person for many years to come. Just don't expect to use them for winter sports. These are cold weather work gloves. Not what you use to travel across the North Pole :)

Pros
  • The waterproof, breathable Hipora barrier keeps hands dry when you work in cold and wet conditions.
