Toddler goes to school outside. they climb rocks, trees, jump over streams. There is a jungle! She wore 1 pair of shoes a month (minimum!) or came home with wet socks. I finally "spoiled" these shoes and, my God! Those are her SCHOOL shoes. The rubber soles are real rubber and in these shoes she can climb the wall practically vertically, they are so "sticky" (not the right word). wet socks lately (maybe she just didn't fall in the creek!?), and this sock won't wear out anytime soon. These are not really hiking shoes/boots but they are MUCH better than regular running shoes if you are into outdoor activities. I will definitely be buying them in the next size up until we run out of sizes to buy! BTW my kid is a size 9 in all other shoes and they fit perfectly with some room to grow
