I had trouble finding hex bits, they were popular 15 years ago but then the main manufacturers seem to have moved on from them and so on I could tell these are unnamed brands. Over the years I've had to replace broken bits and even entire sets, I've tried many. Cheap kits are complete junk. But this set looks good. Bits are concentric to the hex, well secured (7/32" and larger are a solid hex and bit) and well sharpened. I examined the pieces with a 10x B&L jeweler's loupe. They are not perfectly made, but very well. The dots are centered and cut equally on both sides; All cuts are smooth with few burrs. Hex bits aren't the ones I use for precision work, they're usually my tool for quickly punching a few holes in things for home maintenance or projects. When I need a precise hole or need to drill heavy steel, I use a regular shank drill press. They're great for general stuff. I drilled a few test holes in wood and plastic and they came through perfectly. I haven't pierced steel, but they're harder than my Nicholson files, so they should work fine in aluminum and mild steel. The stepped tip is convenient for spotting, but makes it impossible to re-sharpen the drill. My sharpening tool won't handle the step. The smaller bits are shorter than normal jobber length, which is good and bad. This is good because the small bits are the ones that break in the hex bit holder because the bit isn't tight. Shorter ones provide more support for the bits and less risk of breakage. The downside is that you may need a regular bit for a deeper hole or a hard-to-reach hole. All in all a good set to replace broken hex bits or as a completely new set. I would buy again.
