I use this to turn on the hot water circulating pump before showering. I mount the remote on my bathroom wall and the receiver is in my garage just 12 feet away. I had to use an extension cord to place the receiver on the near side of the water heater as the heater seemed to block the signal when I placed the receiver on the other side of the water heater where the outlet is. I've also found that if you stand between the remote and the receiver, sometimes the signal gets blocked and the pump won't turn on. After making these settings, the remote works like a charm and I have instant hot water whenever I want it.
