Nostalgia! Note the RESET BUTTON on the back.
Brings back so many memories. Mine was apparently DOA (dead on arrival) too, but then I noticed a tiny RESET BUTTON next to the slot you pull the white tab out of at the back. I used a small screwdriver and pressed the button for a few seconds, turned it back and pressed the ON button and it worked. Neither the operating instructions nor the packaging say anything about this. Hope this helps someone else.
