I have had a size 12 Teva Deacon sandals for many years. I loved them so much. They were damn comfortable to wear almost anywhere. I could walk barefoot and not worry about the straps rubbing my feet the wrong way. I could wear socks (very stylish I know) and they were great in all weather except snow. Most importantly, they broke in and I was able to put them on and take them off - it was wonderful! Now let's talk about these forebays. My wife got me a size 12 for Christmas. I had a hard time putting them on so I changed them to the 13th size. Fit much better. However, I pray they continue to break in. After about 10 days, they will gradually stretch a little and become more comfortable to wear. But we are still a long way from the old deacons. Three things really bother me. I'm not sure if they will improve or not. First, the hole in the ankle is slightly smaller on these shoes. As mentioned, I expect them to stretch out a bit over time. But at the moment I have the strap that goes over my foot only half closed. Difficult to explain. Let's just say I pulled back the velcro to maximize the opening at the ankle. Then I reattached the velcro but only covered about half of the band (when I look at it). Even then, I have a hard time *putting* my foot in the thick socks. With thin socks this is a small problem. Barefoot, no problem. Second Complaint. My little finger keeps clinging to the holes. It's just not where my pinky sticks out, especially when I'm sitting. Then I stand up and my foot moves forward a bit but my little toes get caught in it. Easy to set up and fix, but annoying that it even happens. Didn't happen to the old deacons. Third question. The insole is not as comfortable as my deacons. Maybe it'll get better with time, but walking the dog in these bays isn't as pleasant as walking my old deacons. By comfort I mean differential arch support and I can feel where the strap is rubbing against my feet as I walk. No blisters - I've walked 2 miles in them many times over the past 10 days - but it's just not that comfortable. I'll leave them the way I wore them on the street. And they're fine. But what I wouldn't give for an identical model of my old Deacons.
