Review on πŸ“ 12-Foot Fastcap PMS 12 Standard Measuring Device by Lorenzo Wood

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Like the notebook, not sold in the same scale by both In and CM

The quality is good, which is what I expected for the price. There are better roulettes out there if you're willing to pay a little more or are looking for sales/discounts. However, the reason I bought this device was more for the features than anything else. How many times have you worked somewhere, measured an opening, only to get to the saw and remember whether that board should have cut 17 5/8" or 15 7/8"? If you have such a problem, this tape might be for you. The small writing area on the side is good for small pencil notes and erases fairly cleanly. It also has a functional (decent but not flashy) pencil sharpener built into the lower back corner of the band. This works fine if you're careful, but at least with my tape you have to be careful what you do or it could break off and you'll be left with a blunter stick than you started with. I made the mistake of ordering with standard/metric markings which is not Fastcap's fault. I thought it would be nice to be able to take a tape measure and measure both feet and meters. In use, however, the simultaneous presence of two sets of numbers on the tape requires the numbers to be smaller and harder to read, and the duplicate sets of lines that are not lined up add to the confusion. Where it REALLY works well is as a way for kids or anyone new to metrics to get an idea of how many centimeters versus a scale they are already familiar with or as a quick conversion table by TO KM. For everyday use as a tape measure, I think you're better off with one standard and the other measure unless you need to convert from one length to the other on a regular basis. I didn't think about the belt clip at first, but after a few uses I'm starting to like it. It has a small "ear" at the top of the clamp that opens the clamp when pressed against the gauge. After a few uses, it will become second nature to simply "squeeze" the band a little to make it much easier to attach to your tool belt. The downside is that if you clip it to the top of your jeans instead of a belt, that little ear you press might dig into your skin a bit.
