I bought this scope without realizing it based on reviews from others but mostly because of the $300 retail price. However, in terms of features and specs, it looked very attractive, so I didn't think it was that bad. I was looking for a small, easy-to-use camcorder to record videos of my family. The old tape recorder we had became too bulky to pull out. This Xacti HD700 camera exceeds all our expectations. The size is incredible, it fits perfectly in the hand, all the controls are within reach of the thumb. Performance is also very good in terms of audio and video quality. A lot of people complain that the zoom is too narrow even at full aperture, but I can adjust to that. I was also surprised to learn that it shoots 7-megapixel photos, while other hybrid cameras typically shoot lower-resolution photos than videos. Extract frames from already recorded videos. I found the last of these features to be one of the best because it always feels like I'm only 1-2 seconds away from the perfect picture. Now I shoot a short video clip and go back to the perfect moment (when everyone is smiling, all eyes are open, etc.). The box comes with everything you need, including editing software (a $50 value), cables, and a docking station. The only thing you need to spend money on is an SD memory card. I recommend a maximum size of 8GB and a cheap $5 USB card reader to easily transfer videos to a computer. Then you can do without a docking station and a USB cable. All in all, an incredible piece of engineering that I'm very happy with.
