I've been using a water distiller for 20+ years. Think this is my fourth unit. This particular model is faster than my last several models and although it requires unplugging two plugs and carrying the heavy metal container to the sink to refill, it is also a lot easier to clean out the residual gunk every time at the sink. Models that are refilled with the plastic pitcher allow the minerals to collect and harden in the metal container and it becomes very difficult if not impossible to clean out. Sort of like brushing your teeth daily instead of once a month. Mineral build up in the canister seems to be what shortens the life of the unit, as it works more and more slowly as a rock-hard layer of minerals coats the bottom. Was very pleased to find this model, which is identical to the first one I bought many years ago.If you've never distilled your tap water, you won't believe the dirty mess that's left behind after the distilling progress.
