After reading some negative reviews about this wave radio I almost bought it. But I'm happy because the sound is great. The instruction manual suggests you try turning the volume up to 80 to enjoy the sound. It played without distortion and shook the house. We took the unit to a party and the volume set at 40 was enough to play sound in three adjacent rooms. button on the box. I'm nearsighted and have trouble reading the time even though it's no more than 2 feet from my head. Additionally, when the alarm first goes off in the dark, you'll appreciate how much this device needs a snooze button. Try to find the remote control in the dark, let alone the snooze or sleep button. I accidentally turned the volume up to 80 the first time (I almost had a heart attack) and had to turn the device off quickly. I woke up the whole house before I turned on the light, found the remote, and turned off the device. Now that I've configured the device correctly, I like it. MP3 CDs play great and there is an AUX input for my portable MP3 player. Initial reading of an MP3 CD takes a few seconds, but after reading, the transition to the next song is almost instantaneous. If you don't eject the CD, the songs seem to stay in memory - even after turning the device off and on again. For what it's worth, the initial read will be much faster if you set up your MP3 disc without a lot of sub-directories. I put 230 songs in the root directory of the CD (compared to artist directories, album directories, etc.) and this made the initial reading much faster. an aftermarket remote for about $9 at Revain. I have opted for a larger remote and use it regularly instead of a standard Bose unit. The little one is in the filing cabinet as a backup in case I lose the big one. Here's another improvement Bose could benefit from. Lighting up the labels on the remote control so they can be read in the dark! However, ergonomic shortcomings do not diminish my enjoyment of the sound of the device. At first I also complained about the lack of even elementary tone controls (bass and treble). However, the more I listen to it, the less inconvenience it causes. The device just sounds great the way it is. Finally, I had the opportunity to contact Bose support to resolve a couple of MP3 CD playback issues. Turns out this was my fault, not Bose's - my CD burner wasn't set up properly for the media I was using. My point is that the Bose technicians were Native Americans, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile to solve my problem. They didn't even ask me how long I had the machine. My experience has only been positive. I like the device so much that I bought a second one for my shop. For Bose: Add a snooze button, backlit buttons on the remote, and a spare remote and you can earn 5 stars from me.
