Review on 🚧 Evenflo Top of Stairs Extra Tall Gate in Tan Wood: Secure & Stylish Solution by Christina Wilcox

Difficult to open and close, weak, there are better gates

I bought 3 children's gates in the last year, so I can tell you a little about them. The first gate I bought worked great but it was a tension model and now I was looking for it for the 'top of the stairs'. As you may have read, you need to drill through hardwood to ensure that one day your child doesn't push too hard and fall down the stairs. Also, the models at the top of the stairs open fully instead of having a small gate in the middle, and it makes more sense for the top of the stairs where you need more space. First of all I would like to say that I like the Evenflo brand. I have their car seat (5 stars) and high chair (4 stars) so I think they know their baby stuff. But for them, it's a definite misfire. Pros* I love the natural color of the wood used and the *idea* of the metal hardware, but see also the CONS section.* Useful instructional video. I thought it went without saying but other gates don't always have videos and the instruction manuals for all gates are terrible. Disadvantages * In practice, it works very poorly. The handle that you have to bend to lock and unlock is very stiff and uncomfortable. I manage to unlock it 1 out of 3 times on the first try. My wife, one of never. This renders the gate unusable. She often just leaves it as if it's locked, but that's not because she couldn't get it to snap. It's not their fault, it's Evenflo.* The wood is thin and the metal fittings are poorly finished. I thought maybe that's what you get for the money, but the next gate I bought for almost the same amount was the Summer Infant Deluxe Stairway. Just protect the wooden gate (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L2BMPRW/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0) and it's MUCH better. go with it
