This material is rock hard and you can only see a faint hint of a chalk line if you file the edge before attempting to mark the fabric. I've been to tailors before and used chalk - not sure what the substance is but I'm assuming it's at least 50% concrete or 100 tons of pressure. I added a photo, the vertical line pushes very hard, the fabric crumpled when I ran chalk across it. The diagonal line on the left was squeezing, which I think is normal. You can see where I had to file the edge to have at least one line left. There were no instructions and I'm not a tailor so I don't know if it was necessary to soak it in water first or how to use it properly, but it seems like the chalk was meant to be easy to apply.
