Review on πŸš€ CVR Performance 5323 Protorque Starter for Chevy Engines: Choose Between 153 and 168 Tooth Options by Duane Ramos

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Extremely durable and powerful starter

These starters are much more expensive than others on the market, but the price justifies the performance. I bought one of these starters 7 years ago and have used it on 5 different engines running daily all the time. Engines ranged from 1978 low compression 305s to 11.25:1327 and 10.5:1383. The starter motor worked fine even with very low battery voltage. The customizable mounting layout made it perfect for 3 very different exhaust/flywheel configurations. It even saved me on an 1860 mile road trip when my 5 speed Camaro blew the clutch line at 1am on Memphis TN projects. I was able to start the car IN 2ND GEAR to get back on the freeway. This starter had enough torque to move the whole car forward and start the engine (big block 454). I had to do this 5 times to get out of town and finally home. This went on for two years after that, and what finally killed him? I was driving across a small lake that I didn't see at the intersection during a very heavy monsoon that nearly stopped a large block. Submerging almost the entire car knocked all the grease out of the starter bearings, killing them. I called CVR and they offered to rebuild the starter if I just paid for shipping. I did and bought another one. The bottom line is that a cheap $100 Chinese mini starter will never be as strong and durable as this piece of American excellence. Buy a starter for your hot rod and never worry again.
